The Razorbacks are our pride and joy here in Arkansas. Whether it's football in the fall, basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring or whatever sport you love keeping up with, the whole state rejoices when the Hogs win and lets out a collective sigh when they don’t.
We all know a lot about the Razorbacks, but here at Steve Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Little Rock, we did a little research and found 5 things you probably didn't know about the Hogs. Here they are:
They used to be the Cardinals. University of Arkansas students voted to adopt the Razorback as their mascot in 1910 after the football team's first undefeated season in 1909, after which coach Hugo Bezdek said his team played "like a band of wild razorbacks."
A razorback is not a pig. Well, not the pink kind with the
squiggly tail you see on a farm. "The untamed razorback hog was a lean, feral
animal that was ill-tempered. It fought and defeated anything that crossed its
path, man or beast." (ArkansasRazorbacks.com)
Joe Ferguson was our best quarterback. He came from Woodlawn High School in Shreveport (he took over as starter when Terry Bradshaw graduated). He had 4,431 passing yards for the Hogs and went on to play in the NFL for 18 years -- with a total of 29,817 passing yards and 196 touchdowns over his career.
Tusk IV is Russian. The 380-pound Russian boar serves as the
live mascot. His father was Tusk II, and served as mascot until he died in
2010. Because young Tusk IV wasn't quite old enough when pop passed away, older
brother Tusk III filled in for a little bit.

Fayetteville is drafty. From Jack Robbins in 1938 to Darren McFadden and Felix Jones in 2008, we've produced 22 first round draft picks. We've produced a draft pick every year since 1996, and a Hog was picked No. 2 overall in 1954 (Lamar McHan).
