No matter how many crazy phases you went through in high school or how many times you were dramatic and slammed the door, your mom has always been there for you. She’s the one you go to for advice and who you want to call when you get amazing news.
Mother’s Day is a time to show mom just how much you love and appreciate her. Even if your biological mother is not a part of your life or has passed, take this day to celebrate the woman who has been like a mom to you. Whether she’s an aunt, older sister, grandma, mentor or your dad took on the role of both parents, give her, or him, some love this Sunday.
Mother’s Day is just a few days away and we’ve got some ideas for ways to celebrate your mom and/or mother figure.
IF YOU’RE TOO FAR TO TRAVEL
Just because you’re halfway across the country, or actually in another country, it doesn’t mean you can leave Mother’s Day to your dad or other siblings. FaceTime or Skype your mom so she can see your face in addition to hearing your voice. Post photo(s) on social media and gush about your loving mother.
Make sure to at least send her something in the mail (or an e-card at the VERY least if postage is ridiculous), whether that’s drawings from her grandchildren, a note saying how much you love and appreciate her or a gift you made or purchased. Sending her a physical gift means she has something to hold on to and read or look at when she misses you.
CELEBRATE
If you are close enough for a visit, go see mom. And if grandma and other family members who are moms are close geographically, get them together too. Treat her to a fancy restaurant or cook a good meal. Work in her garden together. Make an appointment for a pampering sesh with mani-pedis or a facial. Grab a cup of joe and a scone at her favorite coffee shop. Go shopping and buy whatever she fawns over.
PRESENTS
Think about her hobbies and what she likes to do. As much as your mom might love an e-reader or some fancy gadget, a gift that doesn’t cost a fortune and shows how much you know her is most likely what she’ll treasure longer.
Is she an avid tea-drinker? Get her a variety pack or set of teas from the world. Is she a killer decorator? Get her a home decor magazine subscription for a year.
If you’re a student living off Ramen, just make her something. She’ll understand you’re low on funds and will treasure that mug you made her in ceramics more than something you bought.
Then there’s the option to personalize a present. There are tons of online businesses that allow you put your own photos on magnets, coffee blankets, mugs, coasters and calendars.
How do you plan on celebrating Mother’s Day?
