We are currently in the full throes of spring here at Steve Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep. As many of us are welcoming the warm weather, spending time outside and preparing for an exciting central Arkansas summer, others are in a fully-waged war with the pollen causing all sorts of spring allergies.

This pollen is not just devastating for those of us with allergies. Your vehicle is also prone to damage from these allergens--specifically prone to paint job damage. We’re here to offer a few suggestions on how to protect your vehicle’s paint job from pollen damage.

  1. Wash your car. Although this suggestion seems too simple to include in our list, washing your car is crucial to preventing pollen damage. Here’s the kicker--you can’t just use water. That’s right, you’ve got to give your vehicle an honest wash with soap in order to encapsulate the pollen as it’s washed away. If you only use water, the pollen’s acidity will be activated, leaving pollen stains on your precious exterior.

  1. Finish with a wax. Waxing your vehicle leaves a strong protective layer to keep pollen from sticking to your vehicle. This means that you won’t have to fully wash your vehicle every day--nobody wants to spend all that time at the car wash

  1. Avoid parking under trees. Living in the Natural State has a ton of perks. One of the minor annoyances is being bombarded by pollen from our trees. If you can help it, park in areas that aren’t surrounded by trees. Although many of us like to park in the shade to keep our car’s interior cool, your car’s paint will appreciate not being covered in pollen all the time.

*If you’re an Arkansan needing advice on how to deal with pollen as an allergent, we’d recommend changing your cabin air filter and using the “recirculate” setting on your air conditioner.*

There you go! Keeping these easy tips in mind will ensure that your vehicle won’t take on pollen damage, meaning you paint job will continue to have that sheen for years to come.
