The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most iconic SUVs of all-time and has attracted a vast, devoted fanbase that craves all news Jeep. Expected to arrive at some point in 2018, the auto community has been relatively quiet regarding the next-gen Wrangler’s release. But recent spy shots have revealed a few interesting changes to its design and build.
The Wrangler platform will retain its standard body-on-frame build, but will employ aluminum materials in order to lighten its weight and subsequently improve its fuel economy. A few notable style differences include a raked back windshield, which is expected to drastically cut down on wind resistance during off-roading adventures. Also notable is the upcoming Wrangler’s seemingly wider front fenders and longer front end. Unfortunately, Jeep’s doing a good job of keeping their next-gen Wrangler under wraps, so it looks like a full visual reveal is still fairly far off.
Regardless, expect this off-roading machine to be powered by a Pentastar V6. Only, this time the Wrangler will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which will improve powertrain flexibility while boosting your fuel economy. Needless to say, you can expect this new Wrangler to offer you a significant boost in fuel efficiency.
Other possible engine options will include a V6 turbo diesel and a hybrid option, which will be a welcome addition for our more environmentally-conscious Jeepers.
