The U.S. Department of Energy has provided four tips that can help drivers reduce the amount of gas they are using.

1.    Drive efficiently: by driving sensibly, observing the speed limit both on highway and in city, removing excess weight from your vehicle and avoiding excessive idling can help you save your gas.

2.    Keep your car in shape:  keeping your engine tuned can improve gas mileage by four percent, or keeping tires inflated will help mpg by 3.3 percent and using the proper grade of Motor Oil will improve gas mileage by one to two percent.

3.    Plan and combine trips: when running errands try to combine them into one trip to save time and money, several short trips can use twice as much fuel as one long trip. Try to carpool or use public transportation to cut back on driving. Also, when traveling utilize your trunk space instead of the travel rack on the top of your car to reduce aerodynamic drag and avoid unneeded items as to not weigh down your car more than need be.

4.    Choose a more efficient vehicle: purchasing the right vehicle is the most important decision when it comes to fuel economy. The difference between 20 MPG and 30 MPG could amount to about $938 per year. Remember, Steve Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep is your number one stop for the best vehicles with high MPG ratings.
